NO 1 – Clean up your hard drive disk space. The disk is usually loaded with temporary files, recycle bin, cookies, …
The most easy way to clean up the hard drive disk space is to use ccleaner.

NO 2 – Defragment the hard drive disk of your computer. This way you will safe space on the hdd
but you will also be able to load faster. You can do this in windows or with a tool.

NO 3 – Remove applications out of the windows start up. Because every time you start your computer
and it takes a while to load it, that’s too bad because you can fix this easy. You can do this in windows or use a tool like ccleaner.
To do it in windows go to start menu and type “msconfig.exe”
You now need to go to startup like this:

NO 4 – Turn off visual effects in windows. If you don’t care about visual effects turn them off.

No 5 – Upgrade your RAM! Upgrading RAM is a very cost effective upgrade.
You will have to spend a little to do this hardware upgrade. This by replacing the RAM chips with better ones. See here how to do it:

NO 7 – Remove pre-installed software. Most of the pre-installed software won’t be used. If you want to make pc faster it’s a good thing to remove pre-installed software. NO 13 – Change from hdd to ssd. A ssd loads files and programs faster. If you want fast loading speeds you can consider buying a ssd. No 14 – Change from operating system. To make a computer faster something you can do is change to a ‘better’ operating system. You can use linux ubuntu and windows with in 2 partitions. NO 15 – Disable unused ports. You can make the boot time faster by disabling unused ports in Device manager. For example, if you don’t have input devices that are connected to one of your USBs or COM ports, disabling them are going to give you an extra perfromance boost in booting. Just disable every device that currently has no use for your computer. This is how to do it: Go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware tab -> device manager. Then disable and restart your computer. Your computer will now boot faster.

Open your registry and find the key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]. Create a new sub-key named ‘AlwaysUnloadDLL’ and set the default value to equal ‘1’ to disable Windows caching the DLL in memory. Restart Windows for the change to take effect.
NO 17 – Convert FAT file system to NTSF. If you are still using a FAT file system convert it to NTSF to get best performance.
There are 3 file systems you can choose NTFS, FAT and FAT32. NTFS is the recommended one because it’s more powerfull. To get optimal computer performance you need to convert to NTFS system. NTFS also includes features like hosting active directory as wel as other imortant security features. This is how to convert a volume to NTFS from the command prompt:
- Open Command Prompt. Then Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
- In the command prompt window type: convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs
Important Once you convert a drive or partition to NTFS, you cannot just convert it back to FAT or FAT32. NO 19 – Use an external hard drive. A simple tip to make pc faster is to use an external harddrive instead. You can increase load times by doing this. NO 21 – Update drivers. It’s a smart thing to update the drivers. If they are up to date there are less bugs and your computer performance can increase. You want to update chipset and motherboard. NO 22 – Disk cleanup windows computer. There is a disk cleanup utility in windows that you can use. You can use this to clean your disk like the name said it. NO 23 – Do a virus scan. Like for humans a virus is also bad for a computer. A virus can slow a computer down and can cause many problems. The best thing to do is to scan for virusses often. NO 24 – Remove toolbars from browser. Sometimes when you download software there is a toolbar that you don’t use with it. You can make your computer faster by deleting this toolbar. You can delete a toolbar in your browser or with ccleaner see post NO 1.
NO 25 – Overclock processor. This is not suitable for everyone, you need some technical knowledge. Overclocking a processor is also not healthy for the processor. NO 26 – Scan harddrive for errors. You can scan your harddrive for errors or bad sectors. To scan the harddrive i know a good tool. CHKDSK is a good tool. NO 27 – Use Altiris software virtualization. Use Altiris software virtualization to install all of your programs into a virtual layer that does not affect the registry or system files.

NO 29 – Tweak settings in windows. There is a nice program from windows that allows you to tweak the settings. This way you can optimize the settings in windows easy and optimize pc performance. NO 30 – Delete temporary files. After a while these files can take a large place on your drive. Delete internet browser history, temporary Internet files, cookies to free up disk space. You can do this the best way with ccleaner. To know more about ccleaner read NO 1.
NO 31 – Clean windows prefetch folder. Another thing you can do to make your computer faster is to clean windows prefetch folder. If you do this you can improve your computer or laptops performance. NO 32 – Disable xp boot logo. This is another one for windows xp users. You can increase computer performance by disabling xp boot logo. It’s not hard to do this. If you wonder the boot logo is what covers up during the boot process. You can disable the XP splash screen which will speed up the
overall boot process.
1. Click Start, and then click Run. Type in the following: msconfig.
2. Click BOOT.INI from the top tabs.
3. Go down to Boot Options, and tick /NOGUIBOOT.
4. Click Apply and then OK to close msconfig.
5. Now you will have to restart your computer.
The splash screen is gone. It can be re-enabled by unticking /NOGUIBOOT back in the msconfig.
NO 33 – Boot up faster. If you boot up there are a lot of fonts that cause a longer boot time. If you want to boot fast with your computer here is something you can do. Many of the logs when you boot up are actually fonts. You can move the once you never use to another folder.
- Create New Folder right click on desktop. New>Folder.
- Open Fonts in Control Panel. Switch to Classic View to find easier.
- Highlight a group of fonts you never use and move them to the other folder. If you have many fonts repeat.
- Put the folder into My Documents for easy access.
- Reboot and see if it starts any faster for you. If not, just copy the fonts back to the original font folder.
Now open a command prompt: Start, Run, Type cmd.exe, press enter.

NO 35 – Use process Lasso to make pc faster. Process Lasso is a program you can use to make sure no process can completely overtake cpu. It basically controls your processes so no single process can overtake all the CPU power of the system, which can lead to freezes or hangs. NO 36 – Clear the thumbnail cache to speed-up computer. Everytime you view a folder with images there is made a file “Thumbs.db”. You need to clear the thumbnail cache to improve computer speed. NO 37 – Speed-up boot time in windows vista. You can speed-up boot time with windows vista using performance toolkit. The toolkit contains a performance analyzing system and application performance on Windows Vista. You can not use this on other windows operating systems. This tool is only meant for IT professionals, but if you are comfortable with command line, just try it. NO 38 – Make your Vista computer faster with disk caching. You can only use this tip if you use Windows Vista. There is a really cool feature in vista that allows you to use an usb as cache. This way with this extra cache your computer will perform better. The disk caching software we are talking about is readyboost. Readyboost is compatible with the following devices: USB flash drives, flash memory, solid-state drives (SSDs), and SD cards. The max limit of the readyboost device is 32 GB.

NO 39 – Build own computer. Building your own computer can be fun. If you have the knowledge at least. There are many good things about building a computer. NO 40 – Disable last access timestamp in windows XP. Every time when you read a file there is a file left with the date and time of access. If you turn this off you can make pc faster. If you rely on the date and time of access in files then don’t turn this off! You can simply turn off by opening command prompt: Start, Run, Type cmd.exe, press enter.
Type the following in command prompt and then just reboot your computer:

- click on the “Advanced” tab
- Under Performance click on “Settings” button

NO 43 – Enable Direct Memory Access Microsoft Windows includes a feature known as DMA or Direct Memory Access.
